Partnership with United Way Buffalo Erie County for the Giving Challenge
‘Change Starts Here’ Campaign Matches Donations Dollar for Dollar in March
United Way of Buffalo & Erie County is partnering with Independent Health to create the “Change Starts Here” challenge – a 31-day contribution match program running for the entire month of March. Every donation made to the United Way in March will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000, thanks to a generous contribution from Independent Health.
When Covid-19 hit Erie County, the ways we live, work, and learn were radically changed. Despite this seismic shift, United Way of Buffalo & Erie County has continued the pursuit of its mission: to create systemic community change by supporting the health, education, and financial stability of every person.
“For United Way, creating systemic change means addressing systemic inequities, elevating new voices and engaging new partners,” explains Michael Weiner, President & CEO of United Way of Buffalo & Erie County. “At the same time, nonprofits in our community continue to face an unprecedented demand for services. This has resulted in a 30% increase in requests for United Way program funding.”
Independent Health recognized this need and came forward with both an additional $50,000 matching donation and a challenge to others in the community to join the cause.
“Independent Health, just like the United Way, is deeply-rooted and committed to this community. Both of our organizations exist of and for this community, and we are honored to partner with the United Way on this important campaign,” says Michael W. Cropp, M.D., President & CEO of Independent Health. “United Way does such a great job of recognizing the gaps and the disparities that exist across our community and is working hard to do their part to fill those gaps. United Way has the relationships, the knowledge, and the processes to not only identify opportunities, but also identify organizations and programs that have a strong track record of making a difference."
There is no one answer to creating systemic change – but when you give to United Way, you’re building solutions that support the well-being of our neighbors and community members at every stage of life. You can click here to make double the impact or learn more at uwbec.org.
