Frequently Asked Questions
Below are categories of payment related questions.
Can a family member pay my premium bill on my behalf / for me?
Yes, as long as the family member is using their own credit / debit card or they are an authorized representative on your credit / debit card they can make payment on your behalf.
What types of payment options do I have?
Independent Health accepts cash, check/money order, Mastercard, Visa, Discover & American Express. We also allow for auto deduction from a bank account. To enroll in this option, please call Customer Service at (716) 631-8701 or 1-800-501-3439.
Why did I get a bill when I have paid my premium for the month?
It's possible your payment and the billing statement crossed in the mail. Please note the statement date and check with your banking institute to make sure payment was received prior to that.
Will I be termed if I can't pay the total cost of my monthly premium?
Yes, Premiums are due in full prior to the first day of the coverage period. If the monthly premium is not paid by the last day of the current month's coverage, your coverage can be terminated.
If termed can I be reinstated upon paying past due balances?
Unfortunately, if terminated you will have to reapply in your plan.
Is there a late charge if the premium bill is not paid on time?
Independent Health does not charge a late fee if the bill is not paid exactly on time however, please note: The Grace Period is one month (the last day of the month in which the premium bill is for) for non-APTC members, three months for those who have APTC. Retro terms are allowed for non-APTC.

Why is my bill for more than my monthly premium?
All premiums for this contract go out 2 months in advance to prevent termination. Bills are sent out the last week of the month prior to the 60 day window. For example, a bill with a transaction date at the end of March will be for coverage through the month of June with payment due 5/31.
