“As Official Health and Wellness Partner of the Buffalo Bills, Independent Health is excited to once again be teaming up with the Bills to encourage Western New Yorkers to integrate physical activity and good nutrition into their daily lives,” said Michael W. Cropp, M.D, President and CEO, Independent Health. “Since launching the Health & Wellness Challenge in October 2014, more than 40,000 registered participants have recorded a staggering 13.4 million minutes of physical activity, while consuming nearly 3.2 million servings of fruits and vegetable and more than 5.2 million glasses of water. By improving their own personal health, participants are also doing their part to make our community a healthier one.”
How the Challenge works
The Health & Wellness Challenge was created as a way to help motivate Western New Yorkers to make simple, healthy choices by offering them opportunities to win prizes. The number of points earned throughout the six-week Health & Wellness Challenge will determine the number of chances they have in the random prize drawings.
Participants can earn points by achieving three main daily goals:
- Complete at least 20 minutes of physical activity
- Eat five servings of fruits and vegetables
- Drink eight glasses of water
There are also “extra points” challenges designed to push participants further and keep things interesting. These challenges can be modified to suit each participant’s fitness level and ability. The daily goals and “extra points” challenges are worth 5 points each. Plus, by referring friends and family starting May 17, participants can earn 10 extra points for each person who registers.
By logging in at buffalobills.com/thechallenge, participants can keep track of their progress and learn about that day’s “extra points” challenge. To be eligible to win a prize, participants must be at least 18 years of age and a legal resident of New York State at the time of entry.
