Reddy Bikeshare Photo Scavenger Hunt

Reddy Bikeshare and Independent Health will honor the bikeshare program’s third full year in the City of Buffalo with a week-long celebration that will provide opportunities for members to get out and explore Buffalo by bike.

BUFFALO, NY – Participants will have a chance at winning a free one-night hotel stay at The Westin Buffalo, one of Reddy Bikeshare’s station partners at Delaware and Chippewa in downtown Buffalo.

“We're happy to offer the grand prize for Reddy Bikeshare's 3rd birthday campaign, we enjoy being a station partner and we see our guests and folks in the community using the bikes all the time,'' said Tim Stone, director of operations, The Westin Buffalo.

The contest is open to anyone with a current Reddy Bikeshare membership, including 2-Day Pass and Group Pass subscribers. Discounts for memberships are available in order to participate. Contest activities include riding some of Buffalo’s trailways, visiting Buffalo parks, enjoying free fitness classes as well as free group bike rides and community events.

“In honor of Reddy’s birthday, as well as it being July in Buffalo, we want to encourage people to take advantage of the many free and fun things to do in the city that are easy to enjoy through the use of Reddy bikes,” said Jennifer White, marketing and communications director for Reddy Bikeshare.

Independent Health spokesperson Frank J. Sava said the health plan is very pleased with its partnership with Reddy Bikeshare. “Together, we’re working toward creating a culture of health in Western New York by supporting recreation and exercise through bicycling,” said Sava. “We remain dedicated to improving health and wellness in our region, and enhancing our growing reputation as a bike-friendly community.”

According to Jennifer White, milestones for the third full year (July 2018- July 2019) of operation include:

  • More than 4,600 total riders (an increase of 1,200 from the second full year)
  • More than 57,000 total miles traveled (an increase of 7,000 from the second full year)
  • More than 2 million calories burned

Cumulative statistics since the program first launched on July 21, 2016 are:

  • More than 12,000 riders
  • More than 147,000 miles traveled
  • More than 5.7 million calories burned

“By supporting mobility, tourism, and exploration of Buffalo by bike, Reddy Bikeshare has had an immensely positive impact on our region,” said Justin Booth, executive director of GObike Buffalo. “We are happy to see Reddy Bikeshare grow and expand throughout the region, and always pleased to partner with them to further both of our missions to connect and empower communities through access to active transportation.”

The Reddy Bikeshare program in Buffalo officially launched on July 21, 2016, with 200 “smart” bicycles with GPS capabilities located in currently 43 stations throughout the city. The program will expand to Niagara Falls this year, in partnership with Independent Health, with 145 bikes.

Annual member Tahrik Walton, who moved to Buffalo from New York City four years ago, said "I think the bikeshare is the best thing to ever happen in Buffalo, I use it for recreational purposes, my fiancé and I ride around every weekend, whenever its sunny. We ride all around the city, Hertel, Canalside, Allentown, Outer Harbor. Basically, we utilize the bikeshare every chance we get to get some exercise and take in all the sights around Buffalo.”
