Switching to a New Pharmacy?

Making the switch to a new pharmacy is simple. Our comprehensive pharmacy network includes nearly 300 local chain and independent pharmacies in the Western New York region, along with 54,000 pharmacies nationwide.

Here's how you can make the switch:

    Find Your New Pharmacy

Use our Find a Doctor tool to locate a pharmacy that’s in your plan’s network. Enter your geographic location and plan details, which can be found on your Member ID card. You'll see a list of nearby pharmacies ready to help.

Tip – If you have a MyIH account, choose "Search as Member" and your plan details will be automatically included in the search.

Once you’ve chosen a new pharmacy, it’s time to give them your personal and health insurance information. You can do this over the phone, in person, or online in some cases. Have your Member ID card ready.

    Transfer Your Prescription(s)

To make sure your prescriptions transfer smoothly, you have two options:

Option 1: Contact your doctor(s) directly.

Ask your doctor’s office to send a new prescription to your chosen pharmacy. Even if you don’t need a refill now, the new pharmacy can keep it on file for when you’re ready.

You will need to contact each office separately and ask for new prescriptions to be sent to the new pharmacy.

Option 2: Check with your new pharmacy about a possible transfer.

Some pharmacies may be able to transfer your prescription(s) from your old pharmacy. Certain pharmacies even offer this service on their website.

Contact your new pharmacy to see if they can transfer your prescription directly, or they can guide you on the best next steps.

    Don’t Forget: Cancel Automatic Refills

Make sure to cancel any automatic refills at your old pharmacy. This way, there’s no confusion when your prescriptions move to the new pharmacy.

Save Time and Money: Consider Mail Order Pharmacies

You may be eligible to have 90-day supplies of your maintenance medication delivered to your door through a mail order pharmacy. These pharmacies will ship your prescription at no additional cost, which could save you time and money. Plus, many plans offer lower copays for medications delivered by mail. Check your plan’s formulary (list of covered drugs) for medications you may obtain through mail order, or contact us to see if your medications qualify.

We offer mail order pharmacy services to our members through two partners:

  • ProAct Pharmacy Services
  • Wegmans Home Delivery Pharmacy
