John Mineo oversees the Legal, Compliance, Facilities and Vendor Management Departments at Independent Health. He is responsible for all legal matters, board of directors’ support, and managing outside legal counsel.
Mineo has 30 years of business law experience. Prior to joining Independent Health in 2012, he was senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at First Niagara Financial Group, Inc., where he created and provided leadership to the Legal Department and Office of the Corporate Secretary. Mineo played a significant leadership role in guiding First Niagara’s growth of more than quadrupling in size over a four year period and leading all of the legal aspects of funding this growth.
Previously, Mineo was vice president, general counsel & secretary for Tops Markets, LLC & Giant Food Stores, which were part of Royal Ahold’s U.S. holdings. Royal Ahold was the second largest supermarket company in the world. He also held positions as vice president, corporate audit & compliance and senior assistant general counsel for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of WNY, where he negotiated and drafted risk agreements and hospital provider agreements, and was directly involved in the creation, strategy and implementation of provider networks for managed care products.
Mineo is a member of the Hospice Signature Society and a past chair of the annual Hospice Harvest Festival. He also is the board chair of GObike Buffalo and serves on the Audit Committee of the University at Buffalo Foundation. Mineo earned his bachelor’s degree, juris doctor and master’s in business administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
